About Us
Towns GuitarWorks has been building and repairing instruments for 25 years. Located near Cleveland, Ohio we are dedicated to quality workmanship and attention to detail. No instrument leaves our shop unless it meets our satisfaction fully.
We build custom guitars (and now banjos!) to your specifications, personal taste and needs. If you need modifications due to injury, we can do that! All of our instruments are made of the finest tone woods, and come with paperwork confirming wood origin.
Our Story
Bob Towns was a professor of Chemistry at Cleveland State University conducting research primarily utilizing x-ray crystallography. He held the positions of Department Head and Associate Dean at CSU for 21 years before turning to lutherie full time.
He brings a wealth of organizational and research skills to his work crafting fine instruments. He is a member of the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans (ASIA).
